- Museo Teatrale alla Scala
The La Scala Theater is a premium activity included in the YesMilano Pass.
On May 1, 1911, antiquarian Jules Sambon auctioned his prestigious theater collection. A year earlier, prominent Milanese figures, including librettist Arrigo Boito, artist Lodovico Pogliaghi, and Pinacoteca di Brera director Ettore Modigliani, discussed opening a museum. Sambon's collection seemed the perfect start, but the 450,000 lire price was daunting. While the Italian state offered support, 50 private citizens raised the necessary funds. However, Sambon declined the offer, revealing that the collection was sought by the wealthy J.P. Morgan. Ultimately, the Teatro alla Scala's global prestige convinced Morgan to withdraw. Less than two years later, the Teatro alla Scala Museum opened in the former Casino Ricordi location, thanks to Sambon's collection.
